The US has recently increased funding substantially in this area and is already attracting such people. At the same time UK's research councils are struggling from fEC underfunding and in the case of STFC are cutting funds for young post-doctoral researchers by 25%. Will DIUS follow the lead of the US and provide the funding to increase the number of young researchers or should these researchers and their Professors move now to the USA ?" Show less »

Given the strategy on science being followed in the US, should the UK not be increasing its support for such subjects, rather than imposing severe cuts which will only drive the brightest and best to seek better opportunities across the Atlantic?

The goverment gave her a parents widows allowence while my sister and i where at school, which she was taxed on. After we had left school she was left with nothing having to work two jobs to try and keep herself above board. She also has a small pension that my father had paid into whilst working for he post office which she has to pay tax on as well. But there is now no widows benifit and she was only 42 when my father died and he was only 50, leaving my mother with five children.
She now has a debt that is increasingly difficult to pay for, when you have to pay rent, bills and  debt back every month.

People in England are still quite happy to buy from China and help china grow and India Grow but what about buying from England Plc. Also with the invasion of all the polish and other eu countries whos living costs are low how are we going to compansate for our pay going down and our cost of living still rising . Im telling you Gordion Brown your people can't take much more our cost of living has not gone down year after year poll tax, heating , TV and other neccesity's go up but our pay is going down brought on by companies taking on cheaper labour here in our contry through the likes of polish etc and also by taking administration abroad to India and China where we then have to put up with foriegn speaking people when we ask about our bills and others things on the phone your people are just so frustrated. Also people have worked all their life to pay into the NI and hospitals when the time comes and they need care anybody can use it and we are not getting the benefits of good hospital service."
